From William Barton, a Cheshire yeoman who died in 1588, the subsequent London Bartons, and Edmund Barton and his wife Sophia Rosser, nee Russell, who emigrated to Adelaide in 1839, Barton Branches: Cheshire to Australia details the lives of Edmund’s and Sophia’s ten surviving children ~ Russell, Eliza, Pearce, Frances, twins Lucy and Emma Rosser, Wicksteed Charles. Wakefield, Edmund Butcher and Grainger John. The six Barton brothers were all early pioneers of the Bourke district, beginning their careers in the wool industry there. The book also looks into the history of Bourke, Cobar and Nymagee (and the copper industry in the latter two areas), Willara, Brindingabba and Mooculta stations, and follows the lives of the Barton descendants.
